Bowie vs. Prince Bike Ride Lives on Through Street Art

Portland Bureau of Transportation memorializes the two immortals.

The last Bowie vs. Prince ride may have taken place last month, but the Portland Bureau of Transportation has decided to memorialize the two immortals. The ride had been part of the annual Pedalpalooza Festival since 2007.

The organizer had said that since both music legends died this year, she was going to retire the event. The Portland Bureau of Transportation has decided that the two should live on in memorials on the bike lanes of the city.

Head over to Seventh Avenue and East Burnside to see the tribute to Prince. The tribute to Bowie is at Southwest Broadway and Main Street.

These are far from the first time PBOT has decorated bike lanes with tributes — and they are most definitely not always memorials.

There is a marker honoring University of Oregon football standout Marcus Mariota. There is a Rose Festival princess marker, and a superhero marker — to name just a few.
