PORTLAND, OR — The Boys & Girls Club of Portland Metro on Thursday issued a scam notice that's reportedly affecting residents in the Portland area.

According to Boys & Girls Club officials, people purporting to be Boys & Girls Club staff have reportedly been fraudulently soliciting donations in Portland's Woodstock Neighborhood, in the Southeast part of the city. The solicitations were first reported Tuesday, officials said.

The supposed staff reportedly asked for money to revive music programs at Boys & Girls Clubs and handed out flyers.

"It is important for the community to know that this is a scam," officials said in a statement. "Boys & Girls Club staff always wear identifying uniforms during (Boys & Girls Club-affiliated) activities and do not solicit donation in this way."

Anyone seen requesting donations on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club can be verified by calling the Boys & Girls Club of Portland Metro's administrative office at 503-232-0077.
