Broadway Bridge To Close From 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Nov. 29-30

As the bridge project nears its completion, a few more closures will be imposed to finish the work.

PORTLAND, OR — Broadway Bridge in Portland will close for possibly 10 hours Wednesday night to replace considerably aged pieces of the drawbridge mechanism.

According to Multnomah County spokesman Mike Pullen, the bridge will close at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 until as early as 5 a.m. Nov. 30. The bridge's sidewalks will remain open until 10:30 p.m. After that, cyclists and pedestrians can use the Steel Bridge.

Affected drivers are encouraged to use either the Steel or Fremont bridges during the closure. TriMet's 17-Broadway/Holgate bus route will take the Steel Bridge as well, Pullen said.

The county has been conducting repairs on the bridge for some time, Pullen said in a statement.

"During the closure, the contractor will complete surveys of drawbridge machinery and remove parts of the jacking system used during the repairs," he said. "The contractor has (already) installed four new steel wheels and tracks that help open the drawbridge for ships."
