Chapel Voices

Experience Chapel Voices, an intimate evening of Baroque vocal music in Trinity's luminous Chapel, featuring sopranos Arwen Myers, Amy Stuart Hunn, and Christine Johnson, and baritone Daniel Pickens-Jones.

An exciting addition to Trinity's Music Series, Chapel Voices returns following the success of last year's inaugural concert and fundraiser. Chapel Voices 2026 is inspired by the French genre Airs sérieux et à boire ("Serious and Drinking Songs"), a celebrated collection published over 22 years by Parisian publisher Jean-Baptiste Christophe Ballard.

At turns graceful, tender, gripping, tuneful, and bawdy, the program spans the rich musical traditions of France, Germany, Italy, and England, exploring the remarkable variety of Baroque vocal music from the 17th and early 18th centuries. The concert features works by J.S. Bach, John Dowland, Heinrich Schütz, Barbara Strozzi, and François Couperin, and ranges from sacred and devotional pieces, including Purcell's The Blessed Virgin's Expostulation, to secular songs of love, reflection, and conviviality, such as a command performance of Scarlatti's stunning Euridice all'inferno by soprano Arwen Myers.

Completing the ensemble are Organ Scholar James Walton on Trinity's Italian harpsichord and Ryan Ponto on viola da gamba. While the Cathedral itself inspires awe through its grandeur, soaring architecture, and sense of history, the Chapel offers a different but equally compelling experience: warm, welcoming, and intimate. Its inviting acoustic evokes the scale and atmosphere in which much of this music was originally heard, allowing audiences to encounter these Baroque treasures at close range.

Chapel Voices promises an evening of exceptional vocal artistry, historical discovery, and captivating musical storytelling in one of Trinity's most beautiful and inspiring spaces.
