Caught! U.S. Marshals Service Nabs Suspected Serial Bank Robber

Man suspected of at least five robberies arrested leaving hotel room in Astoria.

A man suspected of carrying out a string of robberies of banks and credit unions was arrested Tuesday morning coming out of a hotel room in Astoria. Billy Dean Hays is suspected of committing five robberies in six weeks.

Just Monday, the FBI had posted a $3,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

They said he was responsible for the following robberies:

  • 12/21/2016 -- Chase Bank, 111 S. State Street, Lake Oswego
  • 1/10/2017 -- Chase Bank, 1675 N. Highway 99W, McMinnville
  • 1/19/2017 -- Chase Bank, 480 Glen Creek Road NW, Salem
  • 1/24/2017 -- OnPoint Community Credit Union, 2430 NE McDonald Lane, McMinnville
  • 2/3/2017 -- First Federal Savings and Loan, 121 N. Edwards Street, Newberg

The FBI said Hays would walk into a bank branch, approach the teller, demand cash, get cash and leave on foot.
