Celebrate Earth Day: 5 Things to do in the Region This Weekend

March for Science, Latino Cultural Festival, and Earth Day celebrations are all on tap this weekend across the Portland metro region.

1. Earth Day events kickoff early in Portland with Portland State University’s 10th annual Earth Day Festival beginning Friday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at PSU Park Blocks, along Southwest Park Avenue. Live music, a movie screening, and free dinner will be on hand for this free event put together by community and student organizations.

2. Arbor Day and Earth Dayevents will be combined by Portland Parks & Recreation at Scott Park Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event will offer food and fun for all ages, with a scavenger hunt, musical performances, and an inventory tree walk.

3. Join the March for Science from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 22, beginning at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. Show your support and appreciation for all that modern science has given U.S. society by joining other community-minded advocates for this non-partisan event. Portland is one of 500 cities across the nation hosting a March for Science.

4. The Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce's 13th annual Latino Cultural Festival will go from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in downtown Hillsboro. Enjoy a futsal tournament from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Civic Center parking lot and performances in the Tom Hughes Civic Center Plaza from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Rain or shine, the free festival will offer food and fun for all ages.

5. And if you’d rather step out of the metro region for a day, McMinnville is hosting the Superhero 5k Fun Run/Walk Sunday, April 23, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Linfield College's Wellness Trail, 900 S.E. Baker St. The event is free and is in support of National Every Kid Healthy Week.
