Here are the top five stories today in Portland:
- A judge has reversed a ruling made late last year regarding the former Concordia University campus in Portland. That’s just the latest decision in an ongoing $302 million lawsuit surrounding the closed school. Back in December, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Eric Dahlin struck down a “lis pendens” on the Concordia property. A lis pendens is a notice that a property has a pending lawsuit associated with it. In January — a month after making his original decision — Dahlin reversed himself after gaining more information from attorneys. The new ruling allows the lis pendens to stay in place. - The Interstate 5 crossing over the Columbia River turned 105 years old last week. There's been talk of replacing the Interstate Bridge for years, but previous attempts between Oregon and Washington failed. In the last few years, there's been a renewed effort to move forward on a replacement for the bridge that provides a critical connection between our two states. (KOMO News)
- It was a deadly weekend for Portland. A gathering at Normandie Park against police violence turned deadly when someone who lived near the park opened fire. Officials say that the neighbor fired at least half a dozen shots, striking five people, including a woman who died at the scene. The neighbor was then shot when someone in the park returned fire. Then, Sunday night, there was a shooting in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood that left one person dead and three others, including children, wounded. (Portland Patch)
- It has been nearly 12 years since Kyron Horman disappeared from his elementary school in Northwest Portland. Kyron was 7 years old at the time. On Saturday, Kyron's mother held a rally in front of Portland DA Mike Schmidt’s office calling for justice for her son. Desiree Young says she wants a dedicated task force for her son's case and another meeting with Multnomah County DA Mike Schmidt. (KATU)
- We now have a rough estimate as to what tolls may cost along I-205 once ODOT starts collecting them sometime in 2025. "We’re looking at a variable rate that would have the lowest rate of around $0.60 per toll point and the highest rate, I think, just over $2, so that’s during the peak of the rush hour," said Mandy Putney, Urban Mobility Office strategic initiatives director at the Oregon Department of Transportation.
