Hi, Portland People! You know what day it is, right? Friday, the greatest day of the week. It's basically already the weekend. But I still have stuff to talk about, so let's get started.

First, today's weather: Yes! These are the gloomy, overcast skies I've been missing! We'll see barely a trace of the sun and have a high temp of 71.

  1. Oregon's ban on evictions expired on June 30th. Since then, landlords have been filing nonpayment eviction cases with Multnomah County courts. The city is trying to help renters at risk of eviction with its Eviction Defense Project and may be sending workers out to go door-to-door to spread the word. (Willamette Week)
  2. In an effort to curb illegal street racing, Portland City Council recently approved an ordinance to address it. Per the ordinance, those caught may be fined up to $500 and may spend up to 30 days in jail. (KATU)
  3. Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is limiting how many people can visit patients at OHSU, Doernbecher Children's Hospital and all OHSU outpatient clinics as a surge of COVID-19 patients puts stress on Oregon's hospitals. All visitors will need to prove they've been vaccinated or show a negative COVID-19 test taken within the last 72 hours. These restrictions will go into effect today. (KGW)
  4. I never thought I'd be writing about a strip club but this one involves a real piece of Portland history. Mary’s Club, the oldest dance venue in the city — and a downtown landmark in its own right — will soon go dark. But worry not, it's not closing, only moving to a new location. And, luckily, the murals are going with it. (Willamette Week)
  5. Portland schools will require all employees to be vaccinated. This applies to workers both in schools and in the district’s central office. Some staff qualify for an exemption from the mandate, but those employees must be tested regularly until they are vaccinated. (The Columbian)
