Fire Crews Put Out Springwater Trail Blaze Near Homeless Camps

Fire broke out around 6:30 a.m..

Fire crews battled a blaze along the Springwater Corridor Trail off 82nd Avenue.

It led to the closure of some northbound lanes of 82nd.

The fire was discovered around 6:30 Monday morning. It was brought under control in about one hour.

It appears to have started as a brush fire behind Vital Auto Brokers at 8306 SE 82nd Avenue.

While there are homeless camps near where the fire was, it appears only trash and blackberry bushes burned.

There were originally reports that shots had been fired, which complicated efforts. Investigators determined that no shots had been fired.

Access to the trail also made fighting the fire difficult.

There were no hydrants near the fire so water trucks had to be brought in.

There are no reports of injuries.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.
