Portland Five Things To Do In and Around the City This Weekend

Head to Eugene for the Country Fair. Float the Willamette. And... like horses? We have an event for you.

1. Not going to lie. It's not the cheapest thing you could do this weekend but where else are you going to see a circus of 50 horses putting on a show that promises to mix "equestrian arts, state arts, and high-tech theatrical effects at never before seen levels?" It's at Zidell Yards on Southwest Moody Avenue. Head to www.cavalia.net for tickets and more information.

3. Actually, if there is an event to challenge the Country Fair, it might be the Big Float on Sunday. The Willamette River will be filled with people on inner tubes as they head downtown to a beach party. Don't forget your life jacket - they are required. There is a $10 registration fee that goes to the Human Access Project, which helps conserve the river. Go to www.thebigfloat.com for more information.

4. Another event that shows Portland at is Portlandest is The Portland Zine Symposium, the annual event exploring all aspects of independent publishing. It's been held in the city every year since 2001. The event is Saturday and Sunday at the Ambridge Events Center on MLK. For more information, go to www.portlandzinesymposium.org.
