The motorhome rolled on to its side. The Prius came to rest on the shoulder.

Kitzhaber had to be extricated. He was taken by air ambulance to OHSU.

He was originally described as having suffered life-threatening injuries.

Tuesday afternoon Governor Kitzhaber released a statement saying his son had been released.

"Logan has been treated and released from OHSU. He's doing well and recovering at home," Kitzhaber said. "Both Sharon and I appreciate the outpouring of support."

The driver of the motorhome - 67-year-old Stanley Lyckman and 63-year-old Martha Lyckman - both of Port Angeles, Washington - were taken to North Lincoln Hospital with minor injuries.

Kitzhaber's father resigned as governor in February 2015 during a federal investigation that is ongoing.
