The leak occurred after a contractor accidentally hit a natural gas line along Southwest Myrtle Street, south of downtown.

PORTLAND, OR — Portland Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to southwest downtown Monday afternoon following reports of a severed natural gas line in the area. Officials have closed Southwest Vista Avenue between Southwest Clifton and Southwest Laurel streets, though no homes have been evacuated.

The gas line was reportedly severed on accident by a contractor working on a water main replacement project for the city's Water Bureau. The break occurred on Southwest Myrtle Street, officials said.
