Police say that the crash appears to have been a combination of factors including time of day, rainy weather, the fact the victim was wearing dark clothing, and the victim's decision to cross well outside of the crosswalk.

The Gresham Police say that people need to be conscious of their surroundings, wear bright or reflective clothing when walking at night, and use marked crosswalks whenever possible.
