Gypsy Moth Spraying in Portland This Weekend

The Oregon Department of Agriculture plans spraying on Saturday and Sunday.

If you live in North Portland, Saturday and Sunday the Oregon Department of Agriculture will be spraying for gypsy moths.

The moths are invasive species and very destructive.

Officials believe if not stopped, the moths can damage many of the trees in Oregon - from the firs to the Christmas trees.

The Agriculture Department sent out a reminder via Twitter.

The spraying is expected to last from 5:30 a.m. through 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

There will be two other sprayings in May on dates that have not yet been set.

Officials say there are no serious health risks to people but do recommend staying inside for about one half hour after the spraying.

The department has set up a website where people can sign up to be notified abut future sprayings.
