Lin-Manuel Miranda Releases New Song Cut From 'Hamilton'

Miranda pairs with Portland-based The Decemberists to record a song that had been cut from the show.

It's the news that every Hamilton fan has been waiting for: a new song related to the show. "Ben Franklin's Song" hit iTunes, Spotify and other services at midnight.

Miranda wrote the lyrics to the song for his hit show, "Hamilton," but ended up never using it because he couldn't find a place for Franklin in the show.

According to The Decemberists, Miranda passed the lyrics on to band leader Colin Meloy last year and invited him to write music and record the tune.

"Funnily enough, he said he’d imagined Franklin singing in a sort of Decemberist-y way, whatever that means," the band writes on their website.

"Electricity... yeah, you can all thank me," the song starts.

The band released two versions of the song: one clean and one explicit.

The explicit version includes a chorus that goes: "And do you know who the f--- I am? / Yeah, do you know who the f--- I am? / Do you know who the f--- I am? / I am Poor-Richard’s-Almanack-writing Benjamin F---in’ Franklin.”

The song was released on the one year anniversary of the release of The Hamilton Mixtape, in which other artists re-recorded songs from the show.

Miranda says that the song should be considered a "Hamildrop" and that he will be releasing a new one every month until next December.
