Here are the top stories today in Portland:
- After seven months, a Portland police investigation into the leak reports about City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty has been completed and is pending final review. The reports erroneously implicated Hardesty in a minor hit-and-run crash and later ensnared the city’s former police union president. However, it may be weeks before the public learns anything of the investigation’s findings or potential disciplinary actions stemming from it. (OregonLive)
- Portland's new Community Health, Assess and Treat Program (CHAT) will change how the fire bureau responds to nonurgent medical calls. Portland Fire & Rescue estimates they respond to roughly 28,000 low-level medical calls per year for ailments like headaches, back spasms, stomach pains, and cuts. Instead of taking patients to the hospital and clogging up emergency rooms and straining the 911 system, first responders dispatched via the CHAT program will treat people at home and help connect them with a primary care doctor. (The Lund Report)
- According to a recently filed lawsuit, staff negligence at The Heights at Columbia Knoll, a senior living community in Northeast Portland, is responsible for the heat-related death of resident Charlotte Iverson in June. (KGW.com)
- Global supply issues have led to grocery shortages and higher food prices in Portland, with meats, poultry, fish, and eggs increasing a combined 10-plus percent in the last year. (KPTV.com)
- Multnomah County and the City of Portland are pushing the Oregon Department of Transportation to lower the speed limits on its five downtown bridges (Broadway, Burnside, Hawthorne, Morrison, and Sellwood) from 35 to 30 mph. (BikePortland.org)
