On Heels of More Traffic Deaths, Portland Police Conduct Yet Another Safety Mission

The City of Portland has made a large effort this year to embrace the concept of Vision Zero - zero traffic-related fatalities. it hasn't gone so well.

Last week, the city saw the 28th and 29th traffic deaths this year.

So, the Portland Police conducted another Vision Zero traffic safety mission - this time, focused on high visibility enforcement and education stops on Northeast Lombard from MLK Jr Boulevard to I-205.

In a two-hour period they issued 32 citations for 45 different traffic charges, 28 written warnings and arrested two drivers - one for an outstanding warrant and one for reckless driving.

Portland Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson says they are committed to working to create safer streets and work towards reducing, and eventually eliminating, traffic fatalities as part of Vision Zero.
