Okay, so it's going to be hot today, but we're going to make it through. This is Portland, my friends, and we're going to stick together. Let me tell you about today.

First, today's weather: There will be a few clouds today, but they're not going to do us any good. A high of 105 is in our future. We'll deal.

  1. One of the participants in the violent clash between a far-right group and left-wing protesters was also at the capitol riots that occurred on January 6th. Jeffery Grace, allegedly traveled from his home in Battle Ground to Portland on August 7 as “part of a larger group” who provided “perimeter security” for a religious gathering at Waterfront Park. 2. Parents and students at Cleveland High School say they are concerned about people camping near the campus. 3. In the face of the ongoing pandemic and recent surge of cases due to the delta variant, a group of Portland area bars and restaurants formed what has been dubbed a "Vaxx Coalition". This formed primarily because of fear of anti-vax backlash towards those establishments that wish to check patrons vaccination status. (Willamette Week)
  4. The heat is coming on and it's all anyone can talk about. So here is another heatwave info dump and I'll try not to be repetitious. Following Gov. Kate Brown's lead, Multnomah County has declared a State of Emergency to mobilize city resources. Tri-Met is once again offering no-fare rides to cooling centers for those who cannot afford to pay. It would also like you to know that MAX trains run slower in the heat, so expect delays. If you know someone who is on their own, and without air conditioning, you may wish to check in on them. If you need it, here are a list of cooling centers in the area. Stay safe, people.
  5. Multnomah County Sheriff's Office has just performed the largest weapons seizure in agency history. 337 firearms, including machine guns, were recovered from a Clackamas County home. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators searched a home on July 29 as part of a months-long drugs and firearms investigation. That’s where they found hundreds of guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition and high-capacity magazines, along with methamphetamine. (KPTV.com)
