It Was Murder: Hitchhiker Convicted of Stabbing Man 66 Times
Michael Stepina now faces life in prison.

A hitchhiker who stabbed a man who helped him 66 times, killing him, has been found guilty of murder.
A jury in Clackamas County Court in Oregon City convicted Michael Stepina of murdering Timothy Way last October.
Way had picked up Stepina, offering the man food and a shower.

At Way's home, Stepina showered and then Way performed oral sex on him and fed him salmon and salad.

Way then drove him to the French Prairie Rest Area by Wilsonville.
There, Stepina - using scissors he had taken from Way's home - stabbed the man 66 times.
He also kicked him repeatedly and drew on his stomach with toothpaste that Way had given him.
Stepina's lawyer had argued the killing had been in self-defense.
Prosecutors dismissed that, pointing out that Stepina had stabbed Way while his back was turned and that Way did not have a weapon.
