Light Rail Best Option for Portland to Bridgeport Village Says Metro

They recommend light rail over a bus line.

The best way to connect Portland and Bridgeport Village would be a light rail line.

That's the recommendation to a Metro committee that has studied the issue for months and will have a hearing Wednesday night to discuss the issue.

The committee is made up of the representatives of seven cities along with officials from Washington County, Metro, TriMet, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

While the bus line would be cheaper, a rapid transit line would be better in the long run for several reasons including be more cost effective in the long run.

The recommendation also include dropping a light rail tunnel to PCC Sylvania from further consideration.

Either way, it is still likely a decade before a new transit line is established.
