Man Accused of Child Sex Crimes in Portland Beat Murder Charge in Sacramento

A mistrial was declared in the 2014 murder trial of LIonel Jenkins. The prosecution decided not to re-try him.

A man awaiting trial on charges he used a child in the display of sexually explicit conduct beat a murder charge in Sacramento, California two years ago.

Lionel Gregory Jenkins was indicted in Multnomah County in June on charges that also include promoting and compelling prostitution.

Jenkins - along with his co-defendant, Mamie Marie Jackson - allegedly forced an underage girl into prostitution, selling the girl for sex acts at least three times.

In the Sacramento case, Jenkins was charged in September 2013 with killing a man over a dispute in which Jenkins's daughter allegedly did not pay his victim's girlfriend $40 for a hair weave.

The case against Jenkins was largely based on the testimony of two people - a prostitute and a drug dealer. The jury voted 7-5 to acquit and the judge eventually declared a mistrial.

In December, 2014, the prosecutor's office announced they would not retry Jenkins.
