This Man is Going to Jail for Killing This Dog
Francisco Vincent Gonzalez stole a car. Kona the dog was inside. He abandoned the car with Kona inside on hot day with the windows closed.

In April, William Robbins went into a store to run an errand. He left Kona, his lab mix in his Hyundai Elantra, figuring he'd be in and out in five minutes.
Which was enough time for Francisco Vincent Gonzalez to get in the car and steal it. Along with Kona. The whole thing was caught on tape - even Kona moving into the front seat to see who, as a Lab, he probably saw as his new best friend.
"I taught him to be friendly, to love people," Robbins told Patch at the time. "I should have taught him to defend himself."

A few days later, the Elantra was found. Kona was curled up in the front seat. Dead.
"I let him down," Robbins said. "He was waiting for me and I never came."

Gonzalez was arrested soon after.
In October, he pleaded guilt to charges including animal abuse and car theft.
On Tuesday, he was told he will spend the next 30 months in jail.
Gonzalez's lawyer had asked for probation.
Robbins was in court as well. He presented the judge with a petition signed by more than 38,000 people asking that Gonzalez be sentenced to the maximum.
Gonzalez could have actually been sentenced to 36 months but the judge determined he could serve some of the sentences concurrently.
