Man With Loaded Firearm Arrested Near Portland Community College Cascade Campus, Police Say

Traemon Franklin was arrested for possessing a loaded firearm; what he was doing leading up to the arrest remains unclear.

PORTLAND, OR — A man with a gun was arrested Thursday afternoon near Portland Community College's Cascade campus, according to Portland police. What the man was doing leading up to his arrest remains unclear.

Traemon Paul Franklin, 23, was lodged at the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of possession of a loaded firearm. Franklin has since been released on his own recognizance.

Police say Franklin was seen near the campus around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 10. Portland Community College security reportedly gave officers Franklin's description and a description of the firearm he was carrying. How security knew Franklin was carrying the firearm is unknown.

Campus security reportedly watched Franklin until officers arrived, providing police with Franklin's location and a description of his behavior until officers were able to observe him themselves. What police and campus security observed Franklin allegedly doing during this time remains unclear.

Officers reportedly contacted Franklin and took him into custody without incident near the intersection of North Kerby Avenue and North Rosa Parks Way.

Upon Franklin's arrest, police reportedly found a 9mm handgun and 30-round magazine in his pocket.
