Man Sets Himself on Fire Despite Police Efforts

They tried to stop him but were not successful. He was brought to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

A man set himself on fire in Northeast Portland Sunday morning, despite police efforts to stop him.

It happened just after Noon on the 3700 block of Northeast 114th Avenue.

Officers originally responded to a call of someone possibly violating a restraining order.

When they arrived, the man poured gasoline over himself.

They called for an Enhanced Crisis Intervention Team and medical.

While the ECIT officer tried to make contact with the man, he lit himself on fire.

Officers were able to get a hose on him quickly and extinguish the flames.

Still, he was transported to a hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries.
