Oregon law says that someone is justified in using deadly force on someone if they believe that person is breaking in or trying to break into their home.
Wilson was a third-round pick of the Detroit Lions in 2005. He was a starting cornerback in 2007 but ended his season on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Wilson re-signed for 2008, which was his last year in the NFL.
Wilson's father, Stanley Wilson Sr., is currently in jail in California on a burglary charge.
Wilson Sr. also played in the NFL. He was a running back for the Cincinnati Bengals and was on the team that went to the Super Bowl in 1989.
The elder Wilson, though, didn't play in the game. He had battled drug addiction, and the night before the game, relapsed.
He was finally found by one of his coaches in his hotel room bathroom where he had collapsed. Drug paraphernalia was at this side.
He was kicked out of the league after that.
