Man Who Left Dog to Die Pleads Guilty
Francisco Gonzalez stole a car. Kona was inside. He locked Kona in when he abandoned the car. That is where Kona was found dead.
In early April, Francisco Gonzalez stole a Hyundai Elantra from Southeast 82nd Avenue in Portland. Inside was a labrador/great dane mix named Kona.
Gonzalez was arrested a couple of days later and the car was recovered. Kona was inside. Curled up. Dead.
Gonzalez has now pleaded guilty to a handful of charges including animal abuse, animal neglect, and animal abandonment.

He will be sentenced on November 7th.
When Kona was found, his person - William Robbins, who had just run into a store for five minutes when his car with Kona was stolen -spoke with Patch.

He spoke of the heartbreak of hearing Kona had been found curled up in the front seat.
"I let him down," he told Patch. "He was waiting for me and I never came."
