  1. In an internal email from Anil Karia, an attorney for the Portland Police Association, sent to Jerell Gaddis, who manages labor and employee relations for the city, she argued that the vaccine mandate is neither legal nor enforceable. This was in response to the city of Portland's vaccine mandate announced on Aug. 30th which is likely to spur widespread resignations of police officers and 911 operators, says the union that represents the Portland police. (Willamette Week)
  2. Several city officials are still concerned about the largely hands-off approach from Portland police during the political clashes that occurred on Aug. 22nd. The Portland Police Bureau have indicated that they are currently trying to identify several individuals who they say engaged in violent behavior, but, as yet, have offered no replies when questioned about their non-intervention. (OPB)
  3. If you enjoy going out to eat, please be nice to your servers. Portland restaurant staff have reported that customer attacks are at an all time high. As diners seek a return to normalcy, servers and chefs are bearing the brunt of vitriolic responses to safety measures for the pandemic still in progress. (Eater PDX)
  4. Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek has just announced her intention of running for governor. With Kate Brown reaching her term limit, the race is on to see who will be Oregon's next governor. Kotek is entering into an already crowded race, but she is the first big-name Democratic candidate to declare a run. (Portland Mercury)
  5. If you're a resident of the Kenton neighborhood, you know when races are going on at the Portland International Raceway. With it less than a mile away, the noise is loud enough to generate complaints. People in the Kenton neighborhood say the issue is so bad that they have installed a noise control monitor. (KATU)

Today in Portland:

  • Singer-songwriter Blair Borax will be performing, along with Noah Kite and Sama Dams, at Polaris Hall in North Portland this evening. Blair Borax sings sweet and honest songs about life and death and heartbreak, waking up and slowing down, and learning to live in a beautiful messy world. The son of an acting coach and a therapist, Kite seems to have it in his DNA to blend the dramatic and analytic. Each musical wave crest and fall mirrors a turn in the story. Instruments rest for minutes before suddenly emerging. Emotions and motifs sustain and then drop into oblivion. The tone switches suddenly from accusation to epiphany. It is the sound of someone going through it. If that sounds like an awesome Friday night to you, get those tickets online. Doors open at 7:00 PM.
  • Social Impact Jam will be at Kelly Point Park in North Portland this afternoon. Participants work to improve public spaces while a guest DJ plays music and a guest artist paints portraits. There is a self-care station with great snacks, places to sit, and voluntary massage trade. Each event culminates in a dance party where participants can celebrate their shared effort and positive impact on the space! The events are held outside to reduce risk. That said, we ask that participants bring a mask to use when in close proximity with others. Register online. 2:00 - 5:00 PM.
  • Looking for a little metal in your Friday evening? Get yourself to the Eastside Bar & Grill in NE Portland to see the band Repent. Joining them will be The Upchucks and Innocents Torn. $10 cash cover. Doors open at 8:00 PM.
  • There is an opening night at AFRU Gallery in SE Portland tonight. They will feature new works by Jonathan Ash and Shelby Louise Baldridge as they share their works from the mythical landscape of 'Specimens'. There will also be musical performances by The Undecended and Lucky Tigers. The fun starts at 7:00 PM.
  • Street Disco Grill will be at the 5 & Dime in SE Portland tonight. Featuring Urban Gaucho Grilling, cooking whatever they want, but with fire. And, obviously, there will be drinks and DJ's. Get fed and shake your booty. Now that's a Friday! 5:00 PM until close.
