Marysville Elementary Evacuated For Gas Leak Thursday Afternoon: Portland Public Schools
The gas leak was caught by a custodian shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday. Officials cleared the evacuation after about 30 minutes.

PORTLAND, OR — Portland Public Schools officials on Thursday announced all staff and students had been evacuated from Marysville Elementary due to a gas leak shortly after 2 p.m.
Portland Public Schools spokesman Dave Northfield told Patch that after a custodian smelled gas school officials immediately evacuated the entire campus "out of an abundance of caution."
"We take these kinds of things very seriously," he said.

Both Portland Fire & Rescue and NW Natural sent officials to check on the leak, Northfield said, noting that no leak was actually found. The evacuation was lifted and students were given the all-clear to return to class after about 30 minutes, Northfield said.
Marysville has about 50 people on staff and serves around 400 students in kindergarten through eighth grade at 7733 S.E. Raymond St. in Southeast Portland.
