Meet Local Authors At 50th Annual Holiday Book Sale Celebration

More than 80 Oregon writers will offer books and autographs Sunday afternoon during the Oregon Historical Society's annual event.

From Oregon Historical Society: Shop local this holiday season and join the Oregon Historical Society on Sunday, Dec. 3 for Holiday Cheer, a festive book sale & literary celebration! Chat with 85 local authors and make a dent in your holiday shopping by picking up the perfect personalized gift.

Holiday Cheer begins at noon at the Oregon Historical Society (1200 SW Park Avenue, Downtown Portland) and authors will be signing until 4 p.m. Admission is free to both the book sale and to the museum.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, this Portland tradition is a chance to celebrate the rich literary talents in Oregon and marks the start of the holiday season at the Oregon Historical Society. Authors are spread throughout the museum, selling everything from children's books to cookbooks to mysteries to histories!

All featured authors have published a book in 2017, though many will also have past titles available.

Notable local authors in attendance include mystery writer April Henry, pioneering Oregon winemaker Susan Sokol Blosser, travel writer Grant McOmie, and the one and only Gerry Frank.

At Holiday Cheer, you will find a book for everyone on your shopping list, with guides for hiking, cookbooks featuring local chefs, histories on topics from Oregon State University to Oregon spirits, and even a coloring book featuring all things Oregon!

To add to the holiday cheer, The Dickens Carolers will be strolling through the museum performing lively holiday songs from 1 to 2 p.m. Plus, the Oregon Historical Society will be displaying items from Meier & Frank's popular Santaland, including Rudolph, decorated trees, and Santa's throne.

Rumor has it Santa will even be making an appearance!

Sip on a holiday beverage and pick up a cookie as you chat with some of Oregon's best and brightest writers!
