More Lead Problems for Portland Schools: Hayhurst Told Don't Open the Windows
Lead has been discovered in the paint dust from renovations.
More lead problems for Portland Public Schools as the student and staff at Hayhurst Elementary School have been told not to open the windows. Under any circumstances.
Why?
"There were very elevated lead levels noted in the window troughs most likely from paint chips accumulating over a number of years," the district's interim executive director of operations, Courtney Wilson, said in a letter to members of the Hayhurst community.

Wilson told everyone the windows must remain closed until remdiation can happen.
"PPS is working to quickly identify an abatement contractor to clean the troughs," Wilson wrote. "We will keep you updated as this abatement is scheduled. To keep classrooms cool, we will be providing fans to the school."
