Nike Unveils Special Bikes as BikeTown Launch Draws Close

The company reveals that about 100 bikes will feature special wraps meant to evoke some of their signature kicks.

With less than a week to go before Portland's bike-share program, Biketown, kicks off, Nike is unveiling specially-wrapped bicycles meant to evoke some of their signature kicks.

Nike is paying $10 million over five years for the making rights to the program, which gets underway on July 19th.

When they announced their commitment to the program, they said it would include limited edition wraps for some of the bicycles.

On Wednesday, Nike released pictures of what three of those bicycles will look like - they will have wraps inspired by the Nike Air Max 95, the Nike Air Trainer 1, and the Nike Air Safari.

As the company pointed out in a release: "When the first verifiable bicycle made its debut in 1819, it was deemed a 'running machine.'"

Nike says they hope to have 10 percent of the 1,000 bikes in the program fitted with one of the three limited edition bike wrap designs.
