Kitzhaber Investigation: No Charges For Former Governor, Cyliva Hayes

The U.S. Attorney's decision was announced Friday afternoon.

PORTLAND, OR — The United States Attorney's Office on Friday announced it would not seek federal criminal charges for former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber and his girlfriend Sylvia Hayes, who in 2015 drew attention when accusations that the pair misused their positions for their own personal benefit led ultimately to Kitzhaber's resignation.

The investigation was led by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Oregon, the Justice Department's Criminal Division, the FBI, and the IRS's criminal investigative unit.

The federal government said it will not comment further on this development at this time.
