Nonprofit Official Convicted of Theft Gets Prison Time

A man whose rise from former addict to the executive director of an organization that helps addicts, was sentenced to three years in prison.

Herman Bryant, who as executive director of the Miracles Club, pleaded guilty last month to stealing $144,000 from the organization.

An indictment earlier this year charged that he gambled away most of it at Spirit Mountain Casino.

As a former addict with a series of convictions who became sober in 2000, Bryant worked his way up through organization, earning respect and providing people a story on inspiration.

He said that while he had sought help for his gambling problem, he recognized it was too little, too late and apologized to all the people that he had let down.
