Man Charged with Killing Two-Year-Old Faces More Charges

Grand jury adds charges against Taylor Kraig.

When Taylor Kraig was arrested earlier this month, he was charged with one count of murder for allegedly killing the two-year-old son of his girlfriend. On Tuesday, a grand jury added three more counts - murder by abuse, criminal mistreatment and assault.

The grand jury heard from more than a dozen witnesses including Kraig's father and the mother of the child.

It was the afternoon of Monday August 15th around 4:40 and detectives from the Portland Bureau's Child Abuse Team asked homicide detectives to meet them at Portland Adventist Medical Center.

They were at the emergency room where they had been called because a two-year-old boy had been brought in with traumatic injuries.

The child - Zackariah Luda Daugherty - was transferred to OHSU's Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

Despite the best efforts of doctors, there was nothing they could do. Zackariah died Tuesday morning.

Detectives interviewed Zackariah's mother and her 20-year-old boyfriend, Taylor Lynn King.

The next day, the Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that Zackariah was the victim of "homical violence."

King, who was arrested and charged with murder/domestic violence, does not appear to have any convictions on his record. He told staff at the jail that he had used marijuana the day he allegedly killed the child.

Court records indicate he lives in Clackamas County as well as part-time in Portland with his girlfriend, whom he has been with for one year.

He will be arraigned on the indictment on Wednesday.

Zackariah was the 12th homicide of the year in Portland.
