Now You Can Uber a Taxi

Uber teams up with two Portland cab companies to expand options for passengers.

Now you can not only Uber and Uber you can Uber a taxi.

The increasingly ubiquitous car service that allows you to call for a ride with an app on your phone has signed a partnership with two Portland cab companies, increasing the number of options available to riders.

All you need is the Uber app on your phone. At the bottom of screen, slide the option bar to taxi and you will be able to summon a cab from Portland Taxi or New Rose City Cab.

It's part of Uber's UberTaxi program.

"As one of Portland’s oldest tax cab companies we are excited to enter a new era as partners with Uber," said Andrey Berezhinkskiy of Portland Taxi Cab Company.

"This new partnership with UberTAXI continues our history of staying on the cutting edge of serving our customers."

Just like with a regular Uber car, customers will be able to track their taxi's progress on the app and even use the app to pay for the ride.

The app will also allow customers to request a wheelchair accessible taxi - just slide the option bar to Taxi WAV (for wheelchair accessible vehicle).

The rates, says Uber, is comparable to just calling a cab.

Base fare $3.50

Per minute $.50

Per mile $2.60

City of Portland surcharge $.50

Cancellation fee $5.00
