October Bank Robbery Suspect In Custody, Police Say
Chase Peeples, 25, was shot and hospitalized following two alleged robberies at U.S. Bank and Ace Check Cashing on Oct. 25.

PORTLAND, OR — Police last week released the name of the man shot by Portland police officer Ryan Reagan following two alleged robberies on the afternoon of Oct. 25.
Reagan, a 19-year bureau veteran, was placed on paid administrative leave, as bureau policy reportedly dictates, pending the results of an investigation and Grand Jury interview, officials said
Chase Arnae Peeples, 25, was treated at a Portland hospital for serious injuries but was released Nov. 21. Peeples was taken to the Multnomah County Jail and is being held on a Federal hold as well as a parole violation, police said.

As previously reported, details surrounding the incident are vague at this time and no new information has been released — but here's what we know:
Portland Police Bureau North Precinct officers were responding to a reported robbery at Ace Check Cashing, 2722 N. Lombard St., shortly after 1:15 p.m. Oct. 25 when a call came in that the U.S. Bank at 3233 N. Lombard St., about a quarter-mile away, had also been robbed.

Employees from both Ace Check Cashing and U.S. Bank described the suspect to dispatchers as a black male in his 20s, wearing a dark baseball cap and dark clothing. According to police, the suspect — later identified as Peeples — did not display a weapon during either robbery, though in both cases he entered the buildings and produced a note demanding money before obtaining undisclosed amounts of cash and leaving.
Reagan and another unidentified officer reportedly saw Peeples about half a mile south of the U.S. Bank, near the intersection of North Oatman Avenue and North Saratoga Street.
"The officers were approximately 50 to 60 feet from him as they gave the suspect commands to put his hands in the air," Portland police spokesman Sgt. Peter Simpson said in a statement. "The suspect did not follow the officers' commands, turned towards the officers and advanced towards them as he reached into his pocket.
"Officer Reagan fired multiple shots from his handgun, striking the suspect," Simpson continued. "After the suspect was down on the ground, additional officers arrived and approached the suspect, provided immediate medical aid, and called for an ambulance to respond to the scene."
Simpson said no weapons were immediately recovered from the scene, but added that a backpack and some clothing belonging to Peeples will be searched, "pending the approval of a search warrant."
The investigation into this incident will continue. This post will be updated when more information is available.
