VANCOUVER, WA — Police responded to a shooting incident inside a room at the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver Thursday morning, according to local media reports.

From The Columbian reporters Emily Gillespie and Marissa Harshman:

The shooting happened about 10:50 a.m.

A patient who was under law enforcement watch was wounded, according to PeaceHealth spokesman Randy Querin. According to police on the scene, the shooting involved two Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

According to emergency radio traffic, an officer reportedly fired a shot at a lunging patient.

The situation was quickly brought under control, and the hospital remains open. There is no danger to other patients or the public, Querin said.

"The situation is now under control so it's business as usual," Querin said.
