Oregon Food Bank Receives 640 Turkeys for Thanksgiving from Foster Farms

10,000-pound turkey donation will help local residents enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal

Today, the Oregon Food Bank in Portland received a 10,000-pound turkey donation from Foster Farms. The donation of 640 turkeys will be distributed to the Oregon Food Bank network and partner agencies to help feed Oregon families this Thanksgiving.

While Thanksgiving is traditionally a time for families to gather around a meal, 16 percent of Oregonians are food insecure. Through its statewide network, the Oregon Food Bank distributes food to an estimated 270,000 people each month.

Myrna Jensen from the Oregon Food Bank was in attendance to receive the donation and speak about the area’s level of food insecurity. Jensen encouraged all community members to make additional turkey and food donations in the coming days leading up to Thanksgiving.
