Oregon Standoff Latest: First Defendant Pleads Guilty

Scott Willingham, who was charged separately than 26 others, admitted stealing government property.

Almost three months after the end of the standoff at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, there has been a guilty plea.

Scott Willingham was in federal court in Portland Thursday pleading guilty to one count of stealing government property.

In return for pleading guilty, Willingham is expected to be sentenced to six months in prisons followed by two years of supervised released.

Willingham will also undergo a mental health examination.

The district attorneys of Grant and Harney Counties agreed to not pursue charges against Willingham as part of the deal.

Willingham is one of 27 people to have been indicted in connection with the armed takeover of the refuge though he was charged separately than the other 26.

Willingham had been with Robert LaVoy Finicum when the two removed government cameras from a pole.

As part of his plea deal, Willingham agreed to pay restitution for the cameras.
