  1. Nabisco workers have ended their strike as members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers’ International Union (BCTGM) voted to approve the contract proposal last week. Many Portland workers were unhappy with the deal, saying that it still demanded too many concessions. (Portland Mercury)
  2. North Portland residents near Overlook Park are concerned about fires that seem to be flaring up nearby. They believe that a homeless camp in the area is behind the fires and they have been frustrated by the lack of response from the city. (KGW)
  3. The rain returned to Portland over the weekend, breaking records and elating local residents. A downpour of nearly 1.4 inches Saturday marked the wettest Sept. 18 on record, beating the previous high of .97 inches set in 2010. Unfortunately, that might be the only rain for some time. There are no signs of precipitation in the extended 10-day forecast, according to the weather service. (Oregonian)
  4. The Citizen Review Committee’s Crowd Control and Use of Force workgroup has just submitted its report on the Portland Police Bureau's tactics during the social justice protests last year. Now the City Council will need to review the workgroup's recommended changes to crowd control tactics, including no body armor, anti-bias training and a permanent ban on the use of CS gas. (KOIN)
  5. Families of some Portland students were left scrambling when they received an email last week from Portland Public Schools announcing that it has canceled 13 bus routes to Benson and Lincoln high schools and 16 routes with different pickup or drop-off times for the foreseeable future. For some students, this means they have no means to get to school. (KPTV)

  • Author Beverly Cleary created such lovable children's book characters as Ramona Quimby, Henry Huggins and Ralph S. Mouse. And they all lived in Portland, which was Cleary's hometown from ages 6 to 18. If you wish to experience the wonder that these characters did in Portland, there is a walking tour through the Grant's Park and Hollywood neighborhoods. This 3-mile loop is easy and flat, except for a small hill to reach Klickitat Street, and entirely stroller friendly. It sounds fun and besides, who doesn't need those extra steps. (Seattle Times)
  • Local artist Mike Bennett, famous for his fanciful cut-outs that can now be seen throughout Portland, has just opened his Crypto-Zoo: Museum of Mystery in the St. John's neighborhood in North Portland.
