PDX Traffic Alert: Sellwood Bridge Closure for the Weekend

Closure just for cars. Pedestrians and bicyclists will still be allowed to cross.

Another closure for the Sellwood Bridge.

The bridge shut down to vehicular traffic early Thursday morning and is expected to remain closed for no more than four days.

The city says that the closure is necessary for construction work, allowing the contractor to pour the last section of concrete for the deck of the east approach.

As soon as that process is finished, the bridge will be reopen.

Bicyclists and pedestrians will still be allowed over the bridge while the work goes on.

Highway 43 will remain open to two-way traffic at all times. The posted westbound detour routes during the closure are:

  • Northbound: Hwy. 99E (McLoughlin Blvd.) to Ross Island Bridge to Hwy. 43
  • Southbound: Hwy. 99E to Interstate 205 (Abernethy Bridge at Oregon City) to Hwy. 43

Eastbound routes are the reverse.

Highway 43 Lane Closures

In addition, the two inside lanes of Highway 43 will be closed between the bridge and Freeman Motors to the north from July 11 until as late as July 22.

The contractor will be removing a median, grading, and repaving the lanes during this time. One lane will remain open in each direction.

This work will add to traffic congestion due to the round-the-clock lane closures.
