Pedestrian Killed Helping Co-Worker Park A Work Truck

An ambulance driver witnessed Monday's incident, and administered CPR, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

PORTLAND, OR —A pedestrian was killed Monday in Portland after being pinned between a truck and a tree. Portland Police said the pedestrian was helping the truck's driver, a co-worker, park the vehicle when the incident occurred.

The pedestrian received medical attention, but was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

According to police reports, just after 1 p.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to the scene in the 300 block of Northwestern 23rd Avenue. There, they found the victim already receiving CPR from an AMR ambulance driver who had witnessed the crash. Officers helped in rendering assistance to the victim.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, officers also established a crime scene, began interviewing witnesses and requested activation of the Major Crash Team.

During their investigation, the police learned that the pedestrian had been assisting the driver in parking a work truck. While maneuvering the vehicle, the driver had pinned the pedestrian between the rear of the truck and a large tree.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and assisted with the investigation, police said.

Portland Police did not reveal the identity of the victim or the driver of the truck.
