Police Arrest Man They Say Led Them on Chase

Police say an officer gave chase when his automatic plate reader said the car was stolen.

A man who led officers on a chase and nearly hit an officer is under arrest.

Portland Police say the incident happened just before 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.

An officer was in his car on Powell Boulevard near SE 122nd Avenue when his automatic license plate leader indicated he had just passed a stolen car.

The officer did a u-turrn. The suspect pulled into an apartment complex and ran, ignoring orders to stop.

The suspect eventually ran back to the stolen car and sped away, nearly hitting the officer .

Other officers got involved. The stolen car - an Audi A6 - was located behind a vacant house on the 3100 block of Southeast 145th Avenue.

The suspect was located about a block away and taken into custody.
