Here are the top stories today in Portland:
- Police officers saturated an area of Portland Sunday night known for street racing and stopped dozens of would-be racers from congregating, authorities said. The Portland Police Bureau said they made 47 traffic stops, issued 21 citations and arrested two people with Oregon State Police. One driver tried to elude police by driving over 100 mph. The driver saw spike strips in the road and backed up quickly into a police car before getting arrested on several charges including felony eluding. (Daily Record-News)
- A teenager was shot in the hand Monday morning in Gresham and ran to nearby Rosemary Anderson High School for help, officials said. Gresham police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Southeast 182nd Avenue and Southeast Division Street. When they arrived, they found the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound inside the high school. The teenager is a student at the high school, said Nicole Prevost, a spokesperson for Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center, the nonprofit that runs the school. (OregonLive)
- Authorities in Portland responded to 13 shootings in a 28-hour span over the weekend, which left one person dead and three others injured across the city amid a sharp uptick in violent crime. (Fox News)
- Pearl Hardware is out thousands of dollars after two burglars came in the middle of the night, and the way the suspects broke in was like something out of a movie. (KPTV.com)
