Police ID Drunk Driver Who Caused Multi-Car Crash On I-405 Sunday

After allegedly causing a multi-car crash near the Fremont Bridge, Travis Taylor was fired upon by a civilian as he fled the scene.

PORTLAND, OR — After witnessing an alleged hit and run on Interstate-405 Sunday, a civilian fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the dark green Dodge pickup responsible for the multi-car crash. On Tuesday, Portland police identified the driver of the pickup as a Vancouver, Washington, man — who was unharmed by the gunfire.

Travis Sean Taylor, 46, was arrested and taken to the Multnomah County Jail driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, and for failure to perform the duties of a driver. He was released on his own recognizance Monday.

Central and North precinct officers were dispatched to I-405, near the south end of the Fremont Bridge, after receiving reports of a multi-car crash and gunfire in the northbound lanes just after 6:15 p.m. Jan. 21.

Witnesses reportedly told police the driver of a dark green Dodge pickup — later identified as Taylor — crashed into the barrier and multiple cars near the south end of the bridge. As Taylor was fleeing the scene, police said someone on the Fremont Bridge fired multiple rounds at the pickup's tires — presumably in an effort to stop Taylor's egress.

That individual is cooperating with the investigation and has not been identified by police or charged with any crimes at this time. The handgun, however, was seized, police said.
