Officers doubling up on patrol

Deadly shootings of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge are forcing the Portland Police Bureau to change the way they operate.

The bureau has started doubling up officers on patrol.

While it will provide a greater sense of security, it will also limit how quickly police can respond to calls.

"It means instead of having eight cars out there able to respond to eight jobs, we will have four cars responding," Portland Police Spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson tells Patch.

"So, we are asking people to prioritize. If it's an emergency, call 9-1-1. If it's not, please use the non-emergency line."

Simpson says that the change will remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time.
