Here are the top stories today in Portland:

  1. Portland police arrested a man after a brief standoff on Tuesday morning. At 7:36 a.m., officers were sent to a report of a driver unconscious in a vehicle who had crashed onto the curb. Medical personnel arrived on scene first and advised they saw the driver with a gun, money and drugs. After Portland officers arrived, the vehicle took off into oncoming traffic. Officers deployed spike strips successfully and, after a brief standoff, arrested the suspect. Officers recovered a gun, approximately $4,300 in cash, and various pills. (KPTV.com)
  2. A Portland man, Craig Wisdom, was fatally shot while walking home in late Sept., marking the city’s 67th homicide in a year of record gun violence. The 40-year-old man was shot and killed in Portland’s North Tabor neighborhood. Two other men have since been killed, leaving the city on the brink of its record-tying 70th homicide of the year.   3. A new survey of Portland voters shows residents are feeling less safe about the city, know more police are needed but want the police bureau to be reformed and well-trained, not defunded. (KOIN.com)
  4. Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero, who runs Oregon’s largest school district, has been named Superintendent of the Year by the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents. (OregonLive)
  5. The City Council is poised to tentatively approve two plans that would increase the cost of driving and parking in Portland on Wednesday, Oct. 13. (KOIN.com)
