Portland 5 Things to Do This Weekend

Last chance to see Peacock Lane, saying goodbye to Jimmy Mak's, and the first run of the year.

1. Few places take holiday lights as seriously as Peacock Lane in Southeast Portland. The annual celebration of 31 lighted English cottages ends on Saturday night. Many of the owners on the block are involved with a battle to have the area declared a National Historic District. For more on that, head here.

2. You want to get the new year off to a health start? Head down to Waterfront Park on Saturday night where First Run 2017 - a 5K run and walk and a 10K run - takes place at the stroke of midnight. Right here for more information.

3. Want to be with a lot of people but won't want to drink? For the 31st year, the Annual New Year's Eve Sobriety Powwow at the Oregon Convention Center from 1PM through midnight. The event isfree and sponsored by the Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest.

4. Portland's beloved jazz club - Jimmy Mak's - says goodbye with one last shindig on Saturday night. Soul Vaccination plays, starting at 10 p.m..

5. Start the new year with a walking tour of the past. Meet at Floyd's Coffee on Northwest Couch at 2 p.m. for a walking tour of "famous saloons, bars, and bordellos, card rooms and gambling dens. Head here to find out more and get tickets.
