Pay your respects to Packy. Celebrate the Chinese New Year. The worst day for a ride might not be so bad.

1. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday, dear Oregon. Happy Birthday to you. Our dear state is turning 158 on Tuesday. But who has time in the middle of the week to celebrate? So, Saturday, head to the state capital in Salem for a party. Free cake, covered wagons, events for children. Head here for more information.

2. Sunday's not supposed to be so bad. Maybe even some sun. It won't matter for thousands of bicyclists who will gather at the Lucky Lab Brew Pub on Sunday morning for the "Worst Day of the Year Ride." Costumes encouraged. Treats and prizes to be handed out. And snacks along the route. www.worstdayride.com for more information.

3. Packy the Oregon Zoo's beloved elephant died on Thursday and while there's nothing official planned, it does seem like a good time to head to the zoo and pay respects and visit the other members of the herd. Plus the weather should be relatively nice. www.oregonzoo.org for times and location.
4. There's still time to celebrate the Chinese New Year and short of some really excellent dim sum, what better way to celebrate than by heading to the Lan Su Chinese Garden for the Chinese New Year Lantern Viewing? Complete with a 20-foot dragon! www.lansugarden.org for more information.
