Portland 5 Things to Do This Weekend

The State Fair alone has more than five things... but, if that's not enough, there's Hood to Coast, Project Pabst, and more.

1. From livestock competitions to the best flowers to the best pie and on and on and on. Few things capture Oregon like the state fair. And it gets underway Friday morning - running through Labor Day. You hear the phrase - there's something for everyone - a lot these days. But with the state fair, it's probably true. For all the details - when are Tommy James and the Shondells playing? What about Melissa Etheridge? Foreigner? Where can i find the Future Farmers of America? A good adult beverage? - head to www.oregonstatefair.org for the lowdown.

2. Looking for dahlias? The annual Dahlia Festival by Swann Island Dahlias gets underway in Canby this weekend and then continues Labor Day Weekend. And it's not just dahlias. Kettle corn. Wineries. Live music. It's not quite the state fair but there's a lot of things for a lot of people. Head here for more information.

3. When was the last time you saw Duran Duran? Well, they are among the highlights of this year's MusicfestNW Presents Project Pabst at Waterfront Park this weekend. Shows on Saturday and Sunday but only Saturday tickets remain. Duran Duran and Ice Cube are both playing Saturday. Both days from Noon-10:00 p.m.. Go to www.portland.projectpabst.com for the whole schedule.

4. More than 300 collector cars! More than 40 classic boats! All in one place! Okay. I'm being kind of corny but the 17th Annual collector Car and Classic Boat Show put on by Oswego Heritage Council in Lake Oswego is quite the show. It's spread out over three parks - George Rogers, Lakewood Bay, and Foothills. Go to www.owsegoheritage.org for all the details.

5. Looking to get your 1950s on? The PDX Drive-in Movie Spectacular is this weekend at the Portland Expo Center (in the parking lot). Besides the movies, there are food vendors, music, and more. Friday is Close Encounters. Saturday they show Smokey and the Bandit and Sunday they finish up with The Big Lebowski. www.expocenter.org for everything you need to know.
